Life typically refers to "biological life" a characteristic that distinguishes objects that have self-sustaining biological processes from those which do not.
A wider, more inclusive [and more controversial] definition of life is: An organized entity able to self-perpetuate, grow and reproduce within a sustaining environment. Some categories of life under this definition are:
